There are o ways of expressing speech;direct&indirect. Whether tense change is required or not in the reported speech depends on the tense of the introductory verb. No change needed when the introductory verb is in present tense.
not past tense. Change the pronoun into third person in reported speech. this---->that ; these---->those ; here---->there ; e---->go. If or whether is used as connective in indirect questions when direct questions begin with auxiliary verbs. The verb say is changed to ask
inquire
want to know
wonder
question
More on Indirect questions:-When the direct question begins with an auxiliary verb like :-do
did
am
is
are
was
were
have
has
had
can
could
may
might
shall
will
should
would
e;if or whether is used as the connective in the reported speech eg:-"Can you finish it today?" J.Spirit asked her. -----J. Spirit asked her whether she could finish it on that day. Practice makes Perfect.
Direct speech Mother says
" I go shopping now" Mother says
" we are going to piic on Sunday" Mother says " I am very happy" Mother asked
" Are you joining me to piic on Sunday?" Mother asked
" Do you like the dress?" Indirect Speech=reported speech Mother said that she went shopping then. Mother said that they were going to piic on Sunday
Mother said that she was very happy Mother asked me if (whether) I am joining her to piic on Sunday. Moter asked me whether (if) I like the dress. indirect speech = reported speech要注意什么? present tense changed to past tense - see examples above
