最佳答案There are so many reasons to learn a new language, some of them glamorous and romantic, and some of them practical and downright boring. But the reasons are legion, and all very legitimate.

-To maintain a healthy brain. Studies have shown that learning languages stimulates the brain and even “grows” grey matter. People who speak a second language test better not only in linguistic skills, but only non-cognitive skills

-To emigrate to another country, either temporarily or permanently. The assimilation into another country that you are planning to move to will be decidedly easier if you are at least familiar with the language of that country. Even if you are only settling in another country for a short period of time, for example, for an assignment for work, life will be easier if you can navigate a bit in the language.

-Social connections. Marrying into a family of another nationality, becoming acquainted with friends who speak a different language or, one of the best motivators of all, falling in love with someone who speaks a foreign language can prove to be the pleasantest reasons to learn a new language.

-To obtain or advance in employment. In many industries today, it is a distinct advantage to speak another language in order to be able to communicate with staff. A Spanish speaking foreman in the construction industry has a built in advantage over his monolingual colleagues.

-Study or research. In many fields, some of the most important works have been written in languages other than English. Older texts, especially in the scientific or mathematical fields, have been written in German or even Latin.

-Travel. To avoid the stigma of the clueless tourist, a sophisticated traveler will want to be able to hold at least some rudimentary conversations in the language of the country he is visiting. Introducing oneself, asking directions and getting around, ordering from a menu will be immeasurably more pleasant if one is able to do it in the native tongue of the country.

-You have to. Your school curriculum requires at least one language or your company is conducting a required language class or sending you to one.

-You are interested in a certain culture or religion. If you have taken up an interest or hobby that is based in another country, learning some of its language will probably help you in that interest or hobby. If you have decided to study voodoo, for example, understanding Haitian Creole will expose you to a great deal of information. If South American music and dancing interest you, a knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese will help you to understand and enjoy it more.

- Fun. You like French food, you dance to Latin music, you play bocce with the old Italian men at your neighborhood park. Add fun and interest to these pastimes by understanding the languages of them.

There are many more reasons to learn a foreign language, but none tops the main reason of all: it is one of the most enjoyable and self-fulfilling endeavors you can pursue.
