before和in front of的区别

before作为介词时，与介词短语in front of表示位置关系时，都用来表示在某物之前，意思基本是一致的，可以相互替换。但是，两者中in front of意义单纯，before意义就很多样，除了表示位置关系，还可以表示时间和逻辑次序上的先后关系。

1、before指时间时是”在……之前“；指位置时是”在……前面“，此时可与in front of互换。如：

①he sits before me.= he sits in front of me.

他坐在我前面。

②we must go to bed before ten in the evening.

我们晚上十点前必须睡觉。

③The girl squated before the old man and begged his forgiveness. (地点)

姑娘跪在老人面前，乞求他原谅。

④We will finish the work before noon. (时间)

我们在正午前就能完成工作。

⑤Think twice before you do. (逻辑次序)

三思而后行。

⑥It may be many years before we meet again. (连词，用于主从复合句)

大概要过许多年，我们才能再见。

2、in front of 在……前面(事物外面)，如：

There is a playground in front of our classroom .(教室外面)

我们教室前有一个操场。

He stands in front of the school gates and wait for his son.

他站在学校大门口，等他的儿子。

in the front of 在……前面(事物内部)，如：

There is a blackboard in front of our classroom .(教室里面)

我们教室前有一块黑板报。
