今天看语法书时有个疑问，也就是现在进行时和固定短语之间的矛盾，比如，I am busy to ----now ，-----究竟是用doing sth 还是do st？还有The large number of students is 。。。这是我们试卷的一道题，我没打完整，后面是什么of three-fifths的 ，这里我又不明白了，为什么学生是复数，但却用is而不用are，还有A number of 后是加复数名词还是单数，本人英语只有初三水平，今年要升高中了，所以要努力一下，请各位大大帮帮我。。。
短语我很清楚，是student为什么是复数却用是动词is，现在进行时里动词前有to，是原型还是动词ing。

be busy doing sth.
the number of +the/one's+n复数+V单(意思是......的数量）
例如：The number of the students in class4 is 55.
a number of+n复数+V复（意思是大量的，许多的，相当于a plenty of)
例如：A number of students are learning English.
初中阶段，掌握这些，应该足够了。
注:the number of后面的谓语动词要用单数,和学生复数无关,,a number of后的谓语动词用复数..

be busy doing sth 固定句型 至于整句话用什么时态，应对am 做变化
the large number of students is 意思是学生的人数是……，所以用单数，而a number of 是许多的意思,后面接可数名词，当然用复数are
