单独拿出with great difficulty是不是省略了主语，完整的应该是he with great difficulty对么？
还是he was with great difficulty
with great difficulty 这里只能是介词短语作状语，修饰动词climbed into the shop window 不能看成是省略，即使补全 he was with great difficulty 也是病句，介词短语本身就可以作状语，要补全还得把这个句子变成从句才讲得通。

这句话也是作状语，状语省略了he was

如果一定要用分词的话， 可以说：
