如题所述
Chinese surnames are symbolic of heredity. Their histories date back to the times of primitive societies. Before the Warring States, only royals and nobles carried last names. After the Warring States, however, the commoners started to carry last names as well. Thus "hundreds of surnames" became an expression for the common people. Surnames come from a variety of origins, some originated from locations, some derived from official jobs, others evolved from professions. Throughout history, Chinese surnames always have had significiant purposes. During early Northern Song Dynasty, "Book of Family Names" became an introductory read for children. Even in Modern China, surnames remain symbolic of the Chinese culture.
