这是文中的一句话我总感觉 population是否要加s或者说是把are改为is呢？
文中说population做居民讲，那就更应该用populations啊？
为什么
1. population意思是“人口/居民”，但是它一般没有复数形式populations.
2. 如果population做句子主语，谓语动词的数一般分为以下两种情况讨论：
1）如果指的是“整体的人口/居民”，则谓语动词只用复数形式，如：
The population of China is now 1.3 billion.
2）但是如果句中的主语指的是“部分的人口（不是整体的人口）”时，则谓语动词一般用复数形式。
如：About one-third of the population of China are farmers.
Half the population of the town are fishers.
也就是说，如果句子主语是“一半/部分/大多数/几分之几/百分之几等不是整体的人口”时，谓语动词一律用复数形式，但是population本身不用复数形式。

用are是因有四分之三来修饰人口，人口用单数是因为此处作不可数名词，指世界人口这一总体概念。
