对的，这是在虚拟语气下使用条件状语从句的情况，were放在这里是虚拟语气在条件状语从句中的倒装形式，原句是if he were to perform it，倒装时将if去掉were提前即可。这是对将来时的虚拟，除此之外还有对将来时虚拟时用should时的倒装，对过去时虚拟时用had dong时的倒装，做法都和were的相同。
