HOW DID THE FIRST GROUP OF BLACKS ARRIVE IN AMERICA?

如题所述

It has been documented that black people (or persons of African descent) have been in America as early as 1502; when they originally arrived as enslaved people in the Caribbean and in the oldest city in America - St. Augustine, FL, established circa 1565 it is said that those enslaved people ended up intermarrying into the Native American tribe in the area

Also, the great explorers of those times Bal Boa and Cortez also had people of African descent with them on their ships. But the first named black person to set foot in America was Estevanico (an enslaved servant) who came in 1520 after a shipwreck on Galveston Island (which is now apart of Texas). Estevanico and 3 Spaniards wandered around for seven years, until they reached the Europeans of New Spain in 1536. There they heard stories of golden cities further north the Spanish sent Estevanico out with four other men including Marcos di Niza in 1539 to search for the seven cities of gold. When Estevanico reached the "first" city of old, he also lost his life although the reason is disputed between historians as whether it was for mistrust or for his demand of turquoise and women. Estevanico became the first non-Native American to see New Mexico and one of the first to walk on Texas soil.
