would rather 可以像had better 、need一样作为情态动词来使用，也可以用在句子表示虚拟语气。

（1）第一种情况，情态动词用法。would rather 表示“宁愿做，情愿做”。

①would rather do sth than do sth.宁愿做而不愿做...

②would rather not do是would rather do的否定形式。

例如：I would rather （not）sell them to you.我宁愿（不）把它们卖给你。
