in the front of 是指某物(或某整体)内部的前部;
in front of指某物(或某整体)外部的前面.

前面的不一样位置,前者表示前部,表示内部的,如汽车前座:I would like to sit in the front of the car.
后者是 在...的前面,如在她面前:I'm standing in front of her.外部的
