陈天桥1991年至1994年就读于复旦大学经济学专业并获学士学位，1999年创办上海盛大网络发展有限公司，担任董事长兼首席执行官。2004年5月13日，盛大互动娱乐有限公司在美国纳斯达克股票市场成功挂牌，成为中国第一支在美国上市的网络游戏公司。盛大目前也是全球市值最高的网络游戏公司和中国市值最大的IT企业之一。
陈天桥先后荣获首届“上海IT青年十大新锐”、“2003 CCTV中国经济年度人物新锐奖”、“2003年度全国信息产业系统劳动模范”、“2003年度杰出文化人物”、“2003年度上海市劳动模范”、“2003年度财富人物”、“2003年度中国十大风云人物”、麻省理工学院“2004年度全球青年技术杰出人物”、美国亚洲协会“2005年度全球最佳企业家”、美国《商业周刊》“2005年度亚洲之星”等众多荣誉。
