petroleum 与 oil 的区别？

Petroleum ：

A thick, flammable, yellow-to-black mixture of gaseous, liquid, and solid hydrocarbons that occurs naturally beneath the earth's surface, can be separated into fractions including natural gas, gasoline, naphtha, kerosene, fuel and lubricating oils, paraffin wax, and asphalt and is used as raw material for a wide variety of derivative products. 专指石油。石油：一种粘稠易燃的、颜色从黄到黑的汽体、液体和固态碳氢化合物的混合物，天然存在于地表之下，可以分离成多种成份，包括天然气、汽油、挥发油、煤油、燃料和润滑油、石蜡和沥青，作为原材料广泛地用于各种各样衍生产品中

Oil:

Any of numerous mineral, vegetable, and synthetic substances and animal and vegetable fats that are generally slippery, combustible, viscous, liquid or liquefiable at room temperatures, soluble in various organic solvents such as ether but not in water, and used in a great variety of products, especially lubricants and fuels.
油类：任一种从矿物、植物中提炼的和人工合成物质以及动植物油，一般较为湿滑，可燃、粘稠、液态的或在室温下为液体，可溶于各种有机溶剂如酸，但不溶于水，用于大量的产品，特别是润滑剂和燃料中.

petroleum 专指石油，很正式；石油输出国组织 [Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)] 英国石油公司 [British Petroleum Co. PLC (BP)]
oil有很多意思，比如植物油动物油，油画等，石油只是它众多意思中的一个。

意义上没有区别，都表示“石油”
