complex,complicated,intricate,involved,knotty这几个形容词的一般含义是“复杂的”。
complex指组成某种机器的零件、构成某件事的因素或构成数学题的元素不仅很多,而且相互的关系或相互的作用也令人眼花缭乱,只有学识深的人或具有专门知识的人才能处理。

complex为常用词,表示由一些互相联系,互相作用的部分组成,需要有相当的研究,知识和经验才能理解、操作或处理。

complicated为正式用词,表示由于组成部分太多,互相关系太复杂而不能马上理解,预期比comlex更重。

complex: 侧重内在关系的复杂,需通过仔细研究与了解才能掌握和运用。

complicated: 与complex的含义接近,但语气更强,着重极其复杂,很难分析、分辨或解释。
