During the time period of May to August 2008, author visited above-mentioned 14 expo cites in North America to investigate the savival expo buildings. Besides the usage of public libraries and the historical archives centres, specially, author also got free access to the collections of rare and special books at the Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Tennessee, Mcgill University as well as the Georgia Institute of Technology. Most importantly, the author used this opportunity to visit all Expo’s former sites in above cities. The finding of this book is based on his personal feelings and closer observation which come from widespread reading and direct experiences of the site visit.
Now, the Shanghai Expo 2010 has already entered the countdown. It has been decided for the later host cites of expo until 2015. Although for the host cities usualley will lost money, many cities from various countries still crave to be Expo host city after competing for 2015. The World Fair has tendency greatly into a special discipline. This report has divide into 18 topics, and each has own emphasis on, which makes a commentary or distinction on variuos aspect of architectural design and technical matters for these former North America world fairs’ host. Simultaneously, because of the multi-disciplinary futures of architecture, those topics also have somewhat covered the urban design, landscape, city planning, esthetics, philosophy, science, economy and even real estate. A retrospection is good for new journey. It is the author’s keen anticipation of this report can be helpful to concerned specialists, as well as to those who want to further understand World’s Fairs.
